Improving Site Rankings — 4 Comments

  1. I’ve found when it comes to Alexa the rank can be taken with a grain of salt. Some so called “experts” say the same thing about Google although i’d have to waggle my hairy eyebrows if, all of a sudden, my old blog went from a 4 to a 2 or 1 overnight.

Never did really figure out how the Google Page Rank algorithm determines your Page Rank. That old GMG blog of mine still has a G-ranking of 2 even though I rarely post there. Go figure.

  2. I am well aware that most sensible people will completely ignore Alexa and even Google. Unfortunately the advertising sector don’t seem to fall into that category.

As far as I am aware, Alexa gathers visits burely by means of its browser plugin which is very iffy to say the least.

Google bases its rank on the sites that link and the rank of those sites. It is a bit more complex but there I think its value is negated simply by its range. Lumping all the sites in the world into one of six (counting zero) categories really doesn’t say very much?

  3. Doesn’t say much at all but many site owners suns rises and sets on Google Page Rank.

It certainly can’t be discounted in that even though Google has changed the algorithm several times over the years, the same combination of site SEO almost always gets you in the search pages, rankings and ranks.

As far as what the site owner needs to do for Google PR it’s always been fairly consistent despite the fact a sites PR may wobble around a bit from time to time.

On the other hand, I’ve watched Alexa Ranks fly all over the place despite that the site, site visitors, etc, etc remain stable and consistent.

The really amazing thing is how long I’ve been watching this kind of stuff. Perhaps I’m getting tired of caring?
